Coach Chad Geier and the Laker Baseball Team is coming off another successful season and have played in three straight USCAA World Series Championship Touraments. The Lakers return 7 starters in the field which should provide a great deal of leadership on offense and defense. The Lakers are also returning 5 pitchers with experience in the USCAA World Series. They will be counted on to help guide this young team with their World Series tournament experience and with hopes of topping off their careers with a fourth. Burr and Conor Schmitt are returning starters in the outfield and will provide experience at that position. The infield will return everyone from last season led by senior starters Fitzgerald, and Venters. Junior Dustin Lewis and Sophmores Noah Greathouse and Dakota Craft round out the infield. Returning pitchers and catchers are Juniors Stephen Hoendorf, Anthony Steele, and Chase Ruiz along with Sophmore Lucas Sheriff. Lewis and Schmitt have previously been selected as 1st team USCAA All Americans.
COACHES VIEW: "I am very excited for this group said Coach Geier! We have worked extremely hard this fall and have seen some great things from our younger guys who are beginning their college baseball careers this spring. We have great leadership in a lot of guys that have had the opportunity to compete at the highest level in the USCAA World Series. I expect these young guys to continue to compete and push the veteran players as well as help us achieve the goal of postseason play"!
The Lakers will be without starting LHP Casey Grimm this season as he is succesfully rehabbing from Tommy John surgery.
The Lakers open up the 2019 season February16th and 17th vs. NAIA Concordia University at WSU Nischwitz Stadium. Game Times are 1pm Double Headers on Both Dates.
